The Sweatshop

Rocky is between phases right now in his flight school training. He has just finished the training helicopter and is waiting to start the apaches. During this down time they have put him in a class called ALSE(Aviation Life Support Equipment). He just started this class last week and the first thing they are having them do is learn how to sew. Rocky calls it the sweatshop. The reason for this is to be able to repair survival vests, flight suits, flight bags, fancy purses(I'll get to that in a minute)and anything else that needs stitching up. On Wednesday he brought me home a homemade pot holder. We had a friend go through the course about a month ago and he made his wife a purse. I told Rocky that if he ever went to the course I expect a purse out of it. So after the pot holder was done he got to work on the fancy purse. They were given all the material required to make this "tool bag" just a manly name for fancy purse. It had to have pockets, a zipper, handles, and rings on it. When he brought the finished product to me I was totally shocked at how well made it is! Now that I know he can sew I told him to get to work on Laney some outfits! Now we are in the market for a sewing machine!

We did it!!!!!

Yesterday was a pretty rough day for Laney as we were out and about all day long shopping, getting nails done, lunch with daddy, thrift store with Grammie and Pop, and dinner with Mr. Brian. When we finally arrived at home at 9:00pm, I got Laney all ready for bed, fed her and put her to bed finally at 10:00pm. We have given Pop and Grammie our bed and Rocky and I are sleeping on the twin bed in Laney's room, a little tight but brings back memories of when we were first married visiting Bobby and Danelle and sleeping on the twin in their guest room. We thought since we were already there this would be a good time to get Laney in her crib. The past three nights that Grammie and Pop have been here she has done wonderful and did not waiver from her previous sleeping schedule in her bassinet. She normally wakes at 2:00am for a feeding, 5:30am for a feeding and then about 8:00am and is up for the morning.

Last night we were finally in bed at 10:00pm. I woke up at 3:30am shocked that Laney was still sleeping and had not woken up. I got up to check on her and make sure she was still breathing(yes, I am still going through panic mom phase) she was of course sound asleep just like a little angel. I went back to bed thinking any moment now she will want to eat. I woke up with Rocky at 6:00am and she was still sleeping!!! By the time 6:30am rolled around I looked like I had a double breast augmentation and was super engorged, I had to feed this child!!!! I let her sleep till about 6:45 and gently woke her up to feed her! She was clearly not ready to eat and fell asleep within minutes of eating. I then decided to pump to relieve some pressure. It is now 8:00am and she is still sleeping! I hope this continues and is not just her being worn out from the day yesterday! Rocky has been wanting me to pump more anyway so he can feed her as well, he feels a little left out, so if she keeps this up he will get his wish, I just hate pumping because it is soooo unnatural.

She's a Genius!!!

My mother in law(Sally) and father in law(Rocky) are in town along with my brother in law Chad. I was going to get in the shower and laid baby girl down for tummy time when my mother in law yelled, "Mommy, she is rolling over" I came running back in there to see Laney struggling to get that leg over, and I immediately started looking for the camera to capture the moment. Of course when you need the camera the most you can't find it! I was searching all over the house for that darn thing and when I finally found it I had missed the whole thing!!!

I just had to see her in action since I had missed it all due to me running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off, so I rolled her back over to see her do it again. This time camera on and ready to go! See video below! She is not very happy doing it but she sure is cute in action! I might just be a bragging mom, but isn't this a little soon for her to be rolling over? I am super excited about this milestone but now that I think about it, I am not going to be able to lay her on the bed or the changing table for a second without making sure she is not rolling off the edge. Can I go back in time?

My hero the vacuum.

Laney has been sleeping so well at night but I guess she just does not sleep that hard during the day for naps because just as soon as I put her down for her nap she is awake within 20 minutes. She sleeps really well on my shoulder or in my lap but just like before when we were having a hard time putting her to sleep at night she cries very shortly within being put down. I am getting nothing done this way and would love to hold her all day long but it takes a toll on you after a while!
She is not to the point yet where she can put herself back to sleep either.

One day when she was in her swing I was trying the crying it out method that so many people tell me to do. After about five minutes of listening to her cry, I could not stand it anymore but I knew that is the only way she would learn to put herself to sleep so I started thinking of every way that I could tune her out because I was so close to just picking her up, I hate to hear my baby girl cry. I knew that I had to get some vacuuming done so I thought what a great way to get some house work done and tune her out at the same time. I went and got the vacuum and started vacuuming in the same room she was in. Not a minute and a half went by and I looked at her and she was passed out. I thought it could have been just a coincidence. The next day when we were going through the same thing I went to get the vacuum to see if that was really it, and sure enough Rocky timed it and it was 2 minutes!!!! Simply amazing!!!! I have now started to put her in her crib to sleep for naps and today I tried the vacuum trick in there. I have posted a picture of the vacuum and Laney sound asleep. Yes, the vacuum is running not 5 feet from her! I wish I could sleep like that!
